MARIÁNSKÉ LÁZNĚ – ABOUT THE CITY
Mariánské Lázně was founded in the 19th century, more precisely in 1808, and is the youngest part of the renowned West Bohemian spa triangle, famous for its rich mineral springs. This world-famous spa center is also the gateway to the Slavkov Forest Protected Landscape Area. The city, famous for its magnificent parks and gardens, still retains the charm of old times. The spa pavilions are predominantly Classicist and Neo-Renaissance style, most of the spa houses have elements of Art Nouveau, which only exemplifies the picturesque spa atmosphere. The dominant of Mariánské Lázně is the main spa corso with a pavilion of springs (Křížový, Rudolfův and Karolinin) and above all with the famous pseudo-baroque cast-iron colonnade.
This Main Spa Colonnade, or the Maxim Gorky Colonnade, named after the Russian writer, playwright, poet and revolutionary Maxim Gorky, was built between 1888 and 1889 by the abbot of the Teplá monastery, according to the Viennese architects Miksche and Niedzielsky. Colonnade is a rare example of period buildings that have been gradually disposed of or modernized in both Czech and foreign baths past. In 2010 the Colonnade was declared a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Before the colonnade, a singing fountain enjoys a great deal of attention, with every odd hour of musical production completed with scenic lighting at 9pm/10pm. Another magnificent building is the Ferdinand Spring Colonnade, which forms the dominant of the park in the lower part of the city.
MARIÁNSKÉ LÁZNĚ – TREATMENT
The basis of spa care in Mariánské Lázně is the local mineral water, which in the immediate vicinity springs in number over 100, in the town itself around 40, and is used for bathing and drinking treatment. These springs are very diverse in their chemical composition and are thus suitable for the treatment of a wide range of diseases, thus ranging among spa resorts with the highest number of indications in the Czech Republic. The difference in the chemical composition of the springs makes it possible to influence a number of diseases of various organs by drinking cure alone, which is not common in other spas.
