JÁCHYMOV – ABOUT THE CITY

The spa town of Jáchymov lies in a deep valley below the highest mountain Klínovec (1244 m) of the Krušné mountains near town of Karlovy Vary. The mining town was famous in the past for gold mining (16th century). In the Royal Mint, the silver tolar, which gave the name to the US dollar, was coined from 1519. At that time, Jáchymov belonged to the most important cities in Europe.

Another significant period of the town began in the mid-19th century, when uranium was mined in the Jáchymov mines. With the discovery of radioactivity and its therapeutic effects, the history of Jáchymov spa began in 1906 as the first radon spa in the world. Spa Jachymov is unique with its natural healing source – radon water.

The Spa of Jáchymov is unique and different thanks to its natural healing source. It effectively treats locomotory system diseases with radon water, which unlike other sources, has chemical but energy effects. Healing helps in diseases of the joints, the peripheral nervous system and spine, skin diseases, the treatment of Bechterew’s disease etc. The basis of most of the treatment plans is bathing in radon water. A unique source of this natural wealth is Svornost Mine, which was built in 1518 and is the oldest uranium mine in the world. From this mine, radon water is guided through pipelines with a total length of 3000 m into individual balneological operations.

patients within 1 to 2 years after surgery or other cancer, unless the oncologist approves of radon therapy

Laboratory examination of blood and urine. Other examinations are decided by the doctor according to the indications (for an additional fee).
Breakdown of drinking cure, dietary breakdown and breakdown of balneological procedures. Procedures are provided during the week, mostly 2-4 per day. Treatment procedures at weekends are provided in different sanatoriums according to a different plan. On Saturday mornings there are procedures in all sanatoriums and on Sundays only in some.
